The area around Fasano, in the province of Brindisi, brings together rural land, schools and a strong network of Third Sector organisations, yet young people there still face a growing need for educational experiences that let them take the lead, connect with the natural environment around them, and genuinely grow.
There is also a real need to strengthen the bond between school, community and the surrounding countryside, countering isolation, educational poverty and the limited chances young people have to learn by doing and take an active part in their own community, rather than staying on the sidelines.
The project
"Apicoltura sociale" uses social beekeeping as a practical, hands-on tool for youth inclusion and learning, combining beekeeping activities with educational pathways developed together with local schools. Young people, with particular attention to those who are disadvantaged or looking for work, take part in workshops and everyday farm activities that build real, usable skills while connecting them more closely to their local environment.
The project promotes equal opportunities, valuing each young person's individual capabilities, and builds the kind of practical learning and personal autonomy that can open the way to future study or employment. Ongoing collaboration with schools keeps education and hands-on experience closely linked throughout.
