Data from anti-violence centres in Turin point to a growing number of women who arrive with complex needs, where trauma, mental health difficulties, isolation and housing insecurity are all intertwined. Very few shelters in Italy are set up to welcome women who are dealing with both violence and psychological fragility at once, which often leaves them without a place suited to their needs.
These women carry with them experiences of violence, abuse and mistreatment, alongside psychological fragilities that make paths towards social inclusion and independence more complex. Without steady, ongoing support, they risk isolation, long-term dependency on assistance, or a return to violent situations, so what they need is accompaniment that lasts long enough to build real empowerment and self-determination.
The project
RINASCERE offers women at Casa Mariposas, the shelter run by Fermata d'Autobus ETS, a personalised psycho-educational path, built around each woman's own needs and shaped over time by a multidisciplinary team. The support focuses on rebuilding the personal, relational and socio-economic skills needed for social reintegration, helping each woman move at her own pace towards self-determination, employability and active participation in the life of her community.
Every woman is accompanied on her own path, one that recognises and works with the resources and strengths she already has. Bringing together protection, support and accompaniment in this way helps women recover a genuine sense of autonomy and take part fully in social and community life again.
Who the project is for
The project's direct beneficiaries are women who are victims of violence and also live with psychological fragility, many of them under 35, with Casa Mariposas able to host up to 10 women at a time.
Its impact reaches further, to each woman's family and relational networks, to the multidisciplinary team of around 15 professionals who support them, and to the wider local network of services involved in their protection, inclusion and social reintegration.
