The former Fornace di Cambiano is a piece of local history and identity that calls for careful, sustainable regeneration, one that draws out its value and potential without erasing what makes it what it is. Doing that well means creating real opportunities for listening, dialogue and experimentation, showing how a place can come back to life when the people around it recognise it, use it and care for it together.
The project
Road to CRUDA Festival is the first phase of PROXIMA, Munlab's wider project to regenerate the former Fornace. Through participatory and artistic practices, it experiments with new ways of generating social value, strengthening ties across the local area, and building a shared sense of responsibility for caring for the site.
Rather than treating the community as the recipient of a finished plan, the project treats it as an active partner, helping construct new meanings and new ways of inhabiting the Fornace through co-design pathways, artistic workshops and hands-on experimentation. The resulting artistic content and new ways of using the space are shared publicly at the CRUDA Festival.
Who the project is for
The project's direct beneficiaries are around 100 people taking part in Road to CRUDA's activation pathways: students of different ages, older residents, people with disabilities, citizens and families, forming a genuinely mixed community around the co-design of the Fornace's future.
Its impact reaches further, to the wider local area, the audience of the CRUDA Festival, and the networks connected to the project.
