Herculaneum is a city with a great cultural heritage but marked by social fragility: 61% of the population has a qualification equal to or lower than a middle school diploma and less than one in three people works, with an even more critical figure for women.
Added to the lack of liveability is the historic presence of organized crime, factors that have a serious impact on the social hardship and growth opportunities of younger people.
In this context, children and young people need stable educational spaces that support the school, promoting belonging, inclusion and awareness of their role in the community.
What the project involves
The project includes two cycles of continuous workshops on participatory architecture and heritage education, designed as collective experiences of creativity, active citizenship and valorisation of common goods.
Activities include workshops, co-design moments, guided tours and the production of materials by children. The workshops promote youth empowerment, collaborative skills and skills useful for active participation and future socio-economic inclusion.
The expected outputs concern the production of creative works, the activation of territorial networks and the involvement of cultural bodies; among the outcomes: the consolidation of collaborations, the activation of new resources and the shared care of spaces by children and families.
The beneficiaries
The direct beneficiaries are about 50 I.C. Rodinò's primary school pupils, who will actively participate in the workshops, together with the Archaeological Park and Villa Campolieto, which will strengthen their role in the cultural life of the city.
The indirect beneficiaries –at least 400 people – are the children's families and the local community, who will be involved in the participation processes and in the valorisation of the territory.
