In the city of Foggia, educational poverty persists both for those children who live in socio-economically disadvantaged circumstances and for those who experience adversity resulting from a disability, including a functional learning disability.

What the project involves

ASD Assori aims to counter the factors of fragility and economic hardship that hinder healthy growth through a swimming course, which will also help reduce chronic diseases now present within any age group of the population. Like any sport, swimming also stimulates the production of endorphins, which has a positive effect on mood and a feeling of well-being.

Sport thus becomes a means of preventing social exclusion and promoting an inclusive culture, going beyond economic or physical deterrents, but also an opportunity to train new professionals involved in inclusive sport and adapted physical activities.

Expected Outcomes

  • Reducing sedentariness
  • Self-realisation of those involved
  • More opportunities for socialising
  • Learning about healthy lifestyles

The beneficiaries

The swimming course is aimed at 140 recipients under the age of 18, including 40 with disabilities, 20 with chronic diseases and/or cancer, 10 overweight individuals, and 45 women. The age groups involved are 3-6 years (100 individuals), 10-20 years (24 individuals), and 20-60 years (16 individuals).
