The Associazione Sant’Antonio alle Piazze was founded with the aim of restoring a building that is the centrepiece of the Leofreni village medieval square, restoring it to its former glory, for the Cicolano population.
What the project involves
The work planned on the church consists of restoring the bell tower to its original sail-shaped configuration by eliminating the reinforced concrete in favour of red bricks, reconstructing the two bell arches and the roof tiles. This project will also allow the two bronze bells of the Antica Fonderia Pasqualini to be included in the Ministry of Cultural Heritage protection list.
Expected Outcomes
- Restoration of the late Renaissance building, preserving its historical and architectural elements
- Restoration of a gathering space to the area to counter the village’s depopulation
- Protection of the artistic and cultural heritage through the fine arts
- Tourism relaunch, thus supporting the village's accommodation activities
The beneficiaries
With the support of numerous local non-profit associations, the project aims to enhance the Cicolano area, a historical and geographical region of Lazio located in the lower province of Rieti. There will be benefits for the entire local population in terms of socialising and recreational opportunities, as well as tourism.
