L'Arte nel Cuore is the first academy at a European level to offer disabled and able-bodied young people the opportunity to train and participate in major casts. To date, L'Arte nel Cuore has trained more than 5,000 artists and introduced several talents into the employment world of theatre, film, and TV drama productions.
What the project involves
The project aims to normalise disability through the involvement of kids in artistic training courses, including acting, commedia dell'arte, dance, singing and music, as well as DJing, stage make-up and hair, writing and screenwriting.
In this way, artists will become leaders in creative innovation on an equal footing with able-bodied people, without resorting to categorisations which, instead of breaking down barriers, feed pietistic and welfarist attitudes.
Expected Outcomes
- Social inclusion to reduce the stigma associated with disability
- Normalisation of disability in the practice of performing arts disciplines, including at a professional level
- Integrated artistic training for job placement
- Becoming a pilot project whose good practices can be exported to other contexts
The beneficiaries
Direct beneficiaries will be course participants (about 40 each), both able-bodied and disabled. Indirect beneficiaries will be their families, but also the local community that will benefit from this change of perspective.
