The Yellow Boat project was inspired by the success of previous carpentry initiatives for pre-teens, which promoted manual work as opposed to the excessive use of technology. Given the importance attached to the topic by parents, the new proposal responds to growing concerns about the use of screens and monitors.

What the project involves

Using play as the main method of transferring practical, everyday skills to children, Yellow Boat works on domestic responsibilities and teamwork in the family, emphasising the value of individual contribution and promoting autonomy and responsibility.

The approach used thus removes the educational experience from the traditional school structure, preparing children to handle certain household tasks and educating them on sustainability through recycling and reusing.

Expected Outcomes

  • Sustainability education
  • Promotion of autonomy and responsibility
  • Valuing teamwork and the individual contribution
  • Countering the growing supply of digital entertainment for children and pre-adolescents
  • Countering the gender classification of domestic management: there are no “male” and “female” jobs

The beneficiaries

Yellow Boat envisages the participation of 256 children between 6 and 10 years of age residing in the area between Bergamo and Milan, with the concrete involvement of their families.
