The Fundación Olivares was created in 2010 to provide comprehensive support to families with children suffering from onco-haematological diseases. Given the effectiveness of the programme and the results achieved over the years, in 2019 the Hospital Materno Infantil de Malaga [Malaga Maternity Hospital] is asking to expand the range of services offered to patients with serious chronic illnesses and their families.

What the project involves

The project aims to assist in the needs of children and their families in coordination with the hospital's multidisciplinary team, guaranteeing accessibility to specialised psychological, physiotherapeutic, and speech therapy care both in hospital and at home. The goal is to improve children’s quality of life during recovery from and treatment of the sequelae resulting from the disease.

Expected Outcomes

  • Comprehensive family support and improvement of quality of life
  • Comprehensive, coordinated, and interdisciplinary care
  • Increased efficiency, patient-centredness, and improved clinical outcomes

The beneficiaries

The project targets children and adolescents 0-21 years old with onco-haematological diseases or serious chronic diseases and their families. In 2023, 243 families were assisted (51 patients in physiotherapy, 47 in speech therapy, 108 in onco-haematological psychology, 61 in chronic and palliative psychology, and 170 in social work). The number is expected to remain the same, as there may be new participants and some withdrawals.
