According to data provided by AIOM, 1,400 new cases of neoplasm are diagnosed annually in Italy in the 0-14-year age group and between 600 and 800 between the ages of 14 and 20.

What the project involves

By renovating a former kindergarten on Lake Maggiore, the Bianca Garavaglia ETS Foundation will offer a free interlude of normality, serenity, and fun to children and adolescents suffering from cancer. There will be consequent benefits for physical and mental health and an opportunity for escape and well-being for families. It has actually been shown that recreation, fun, and rest have both psychological and physical benefits for those undergoing treatment.

Expected Outcomes

  • Civil recovery and improvement of a disused building
  • Implementation of care services for young oncological patients of the INT in Milan and their families
  • Increased well-being and quality of life during treatment, not far from the treatment site

The beneficiaries

In the Casa del Fiore it will be possible to simultaneously plan a free stay for 6 families of children and adolescents between 0 and 18 years who have cancer. Every year, the paediatrics department of the INT in Milan takes in over 200 new patients and will indicate which of them may take advantage of the stay in accordance with their treatment. We plan for at least 150 families to stay per year.
