The team competes in the national powerchair football championship, which means long, costly away trips across the country, from Milan to Palermo, and in some seasons the added cost of national and international tournaments too. With public contributions and fundraising as the only real sources of income, and equipment and participation costs that regularly exceed 20,000 euros a year, taking part in an additional national tournament is never a given.
The project
The project funds the team's participation in the 2026-27 Coppa Italia of Powerchair Football, covering the specific costs that stand between the players and this important, formative competition. Sport is treated as a genuinely decisive factor in the development and inclusion of young disabled people, especially when they can start young, and guaranteeing that right to sport means covering costs the players themselves cannot.
Beyond this season's cup, the aim is longer-term: helping the club stay sustainable so it can keep attracting more young disabled people into powerchair football in Rome, laying the groundwork for the seasons that follow rather than covering just one competition and stopping there.
Who the project is for
The project's direct beneficiaries are the young players who make up Thunder Roma's powerchair football team, who gain the chance to take part in the 2026-27 Coppa Italia.
Its impact reaches further, to the wider community of young disabled people in Rome that the club hopes to draw into the sport as it works towards long-term sustainability.
