Mirafiori Nord, on the outskirts of Turin, is an area shaped by an ageing population and few real opportunities for young people to take the lead. Many young students and workers here face socioeconomic difficulties and have limited awareness of their rights, the opportunities open to them, and the administrative tools needed to access them.

Without this kind of practical knowledge, young people are left navigating their own path into study or work largely on their own, with fewer chances to build the autonomy and confidence that come from actually understanding how these systems work.

The project

STONKS uses financial, tax and workplace education as a tool for social inclusion, helping young people build autonomy, access their rights and take an active part in their community. Training is delivered through peer exchange and direct community involvement, in accessible language rather than technical jargon, so participants can genuinely find their way among rights, opportunities and services rather than feeling lost in them.

The aim is to move young people from a passive to an active role: preventing socioeconomic vulnerability by building real financial and workplace skills, strengthening support networks among peers, and simplifying bureaucratic topics that too often stand between young people and the opportunities available to them.

Who the project is for

The project's direct beneficiaries are young people aged 18 to 35, up to 30 participants, including students, recent graduates, unemployed young people, NEETs and aspiring entrepreneurs, who take part in a personalised, participatory training pathway.

Its impact reaches further, to participants' families, the local community and the professionals involved, who benefit as skills, autonomy and peer learning spread beyond the group itself.
