Burns represent one of the main causes of domestic accidents among children, with approximately 100,000 cases per year in Italy. Most accidents occur at home, often in the kitchen, and particularly affect the little ones: 72% of pediatric burn hospitalizations involve children under 5 years of age.

In this context, prevention becomes fundamental. Cute Project Onlus, founded in Turin in 2012, integrates surgical interventions in developing countries with local educational programs, bringing the same attention to care and safety also to Italian schools.

What the project involves

The project uses playful-educational approaches to teach children about and prevent burn risks in the home. Thanks to interactive workshops, illustrated materials and the Cuty Firephant mascot, children learn by playing, becoming aware and autonomous in preventing domestic accidents.

It involves schools, teachers and families, creating a multiplier effect: the knowledge acquired in the classroom spreads throughout the daily lives of children and their families.

The initiative is designed to be sustainable, constantly monitored and replicable on a national scale, helping to build a culture of sustained prevention.

The beneficiaries

The project is intended primarily for pre-school and primary school children. Each year it involves around 1,000 pupils, 100 teachers and 800 families, extending the impact to the entire school community.

Indirectly, the effect is also reflected in families and the local area, promoting safer behaviour in the home and helping to reduce the number of paediatric burns.
