The phenomenon of NEETs (young people who do not study or work) in Italy reaches percentages among the highest in Europe: 16% at national level, with worrying peaks in the South – Naples 37.4%, Palermo 36.8%, Catanzaro 35.6%. These numbers reflect a context marked by early school leavers, low schooling, poor vocational training provision, undeclared work, widespread precariousness and lack of solid territorial networks.
For many young people, this results in isolation, inactivity and the absence of prospects, with relevant consequences for the social and economic development of communities.
What the project involves
The project was created to combat the social exclusion of young people, offering integrated courses combining training, guidance, tutoring and job placement.
In Naples, NEET-working reinforces a model already successfully tested in other regions of Italy (Dig4 All and Prodigy projects), which has demonstrated the capacity to generate employment and inclusion. Individual coaching represents the backbone of the intervention: through constant and personalized support, young people are guided in defining concrete objectives, growing skills and overcoming the difficulties that hinder access to work.
Among the expected outputs: individual coaching, educational pact, targeted training and matching with companies. Expected outcomes include increased autonomy, reduced dropout in training courses and increased employability of the young people involved.
The beneficiaries
The direct beneficiaries are 50 young NEETs between 16 and 29 years old in the city of Naples, with different levels of vulnerability: school dropout, inactivity, family care burdens or poor employability.
The indirect beneficiaries include around 200 young people reached in total, together with local businesses and territorial networks, who will be involved in the processes of inclusion and strengthening of the socio-economic fabric.
