Cancer treatment affects far more than the body: oncological therapies can bring real pain, stress, chronic fatigue and a deep psychological impact that touches a patient's emotional and relational life too. Pairing conventional care with an integrated model of personal support aims to improve quality of life throughout treatment, not just manage the illness itself.
The project
The project structures complementary therapies directly into patients' clinical care pathways, building a genuinely person-centred, integrated oncology approach that responds to the physical, emotional and relational needs a cancer diagnosis brings, alongside the treatment itself.
Aimed at women undergoing oncological treatment who want to hold onto their own sense of wellbeing, self-esteem and femininity throughout, the project works towards reduced pain, stress and chronic fatigue, stronger self-esteem, and real prevention of the isolation that cancer treatment can otherwise bring. A more complete, continuous sense of support and being genuinely listened to runs through the whole care journey, with effects that reach into patients' relationships and social life as well.
Who the project is for
The project is aimed at women undergoing breast cancer treatment at the Centro di Senologia of the Azienda Ospedaliera San Giovanni Addolorata (Rome), responding to the needs of around 610 new patients each year.
