In the Escuela de Formación para Ingresos a Educación Superior - the training school for accessing higher education - Corporación Formando Chile provides complete tools for students transitioning towards higher education. The complete training combines three aspects: academic skills, social and emotional skills, and vocational exploration, so that students from vulnerable backgrounds receive the necessary training for pursuing their life goals, broadening their future opportunities.

The project

With this project, Formando Chile hopes that students in a context of poverty, coming from various Chilean regions, can receive all the necessary tools to pursue their life goals, despite inequalities and academic and socio-emotional gaps that limit their future opportunities. Emphasis is placed on the right to inclusive, equal, and quality education and, above all, a complete education.

The EFIES programme is free and does not select students based on their academic performance. The selection process consists of 4 modules. The student who completes the whole process, complying with deadlines, is selected, since this process can identify those students who have developed a degree of responsibility and commitment to their education. The programme involves lessons every Saturday from March to December, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in which students attend language and mathematics lessons and self-awareness workshops. The students also experiment with a vocational exploration process in a group context.

The beneficiaries

The direct beneficiaries of the programme are 1,300 third- and fourth-year high-school students in schools with a vulnerability index (IVE) above 70% throughout the Metropolitana and Araucanía regions. They are students committed to their educational process, with great expectations of accessing higher education, who will probably become the first generation of professionals in their families. In Araucanía, a high percentage of students are expected from rural areas.

The project will also benefit families and peers, thanks to the students’ new experiences, as well as the educational community and next generations of students.
