De Sono was founded in 1988. The name comes from the incipit – “De Sono” in fact – of a letter by Marsilio Ficino, dedicated to the powers of music. Support for the definition of the Articles of Association came from Luigi Nono, who helped Francesca Gentile Camerana, founder and artistic director of the Association, to identify the three founding principles of De Sono: awarding scholarships to young deserving musicians, support for young musicology and concert activity dedicated to scholarship holders.

The project of the De Sono Association will involve mainly Piedmontese musicians by birth, residence or training and aims to help young musicians undertake and complete high-level courses, essential to start their professional careers, develop the fruition skills of new listeners, ensuring continuity with the great musical heritage of Western culture, ensure the circulation of excellent musicological research, otherwise destined to have scarce visibility, and offer the public of the region the opportunity to attend free concerts of high artistic level.

The project objectives are to award scholarships, promote the improvement of young people in the best national and international schools, organise free master classes with the contribution of internationally renowned teachers at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Turin, organise free admission concerts mainly at the auditorium of the G. Verdi Conservatory in Turin or in places of particular interest from an historical and architectural point of view, implement pilot listening education projects in schools of the region, aimed at developing in students skills that can be used in modern society and in the employment world. The results of these projects will be communicated to the competent departments of the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, with the aim of evaluating possible extensions at the national level. Publish degree and PhD theses in musicology designed to convey at a national and international level know-how, research and knowledge of great importance for the development of instrumental and operatic repertoire.
