The Coocende corporation was born over 50 years ago as an educational cooperative founded by 22 parents and guardians who, with dedication and trust in the project, have created an inclusive and unique community. Unlike other educational institutions, Coocende welcomes young people for life, without age limits.

Over time, the structures have been expanded, but infrastructural critical issues remain which hinder the full accessibility of the spaces and the quality of educational and welfare activities. The absence of inclusive bathrooms and adequate flooring limits the autonomy of young guests and makes the work of educational and support staff more complex.

What the project involves

The initiative aims to create safe and functional environments, capable of responding to the needs of people with motor and intellectual disabilities. Interventions include:

  • Construction of an inclusive bathroom compliant with the standards of decree n.50 and urban planning and construction regulations
  • Renovation of general bathrooms to improve their usability and support the autonomy of young guests
  • Renovation of floors in common areas, to facilitate travel and daily activities

The aim is to create a welcoming and safe environment that fosters growth, participation and the well-being of all.

The beneficiaries

The direct beneficiaries are 22 young adults, aged 20 to 60, with motor and intellectual disabilities, who require daily support in educational, work and care activities.

Indirect beneficiaries include families, caregivers and the team of professional workers, who will be able to count on adequate spaces to develop personalized educational programs and offer quality care.
