The Ukrainian ambassador in Italy, Yaroslav Menyk, was in Turin to thank the Region and local organisations for the support received, visiting the Piedmont capital on Thursday, 9 March. Here, he met the young Ukrainian patients hospitalised in the paediatric onco-haematology unit of the Regina Margherita Children's Hospital.
The 26 children, who arrived in Italy in the early weeks of the conflict thanks to the joint intervention of Piedmont Region, Lavazza Foundation, Reale Foundation, and Adisco Piedmont Section, are now guests of CasaOz, Casa Ugi and Sermig. Thanks to the team of Prof. Franca Fagioli, they have been able to continue treatment that would have been interrupted in their country. This is the first hospital in Piedmont to welcome and treat patients coming from areas in Ukraine affected by the war.
"We are thinking about the post-conflict future, the rebuilding of the country: we are organising a conference next month to rebuild Ukraine and we invite Piedmont business people to participate in and contribute to rebuilding the country": this is the call that Yaroslav Melnyk addressed to President Cirio and the business community of the region, which has been active from the early stages of the crisis.
