Oral health needs increase in relation to social fragility, age, occurrence of chronic-degenerative diseases, and situations of greater risk. COI has been working in the field of social prosthetics since 2009, having produced around 104 prostheses thanks to the work of volunteers and the support of partners.
What the project involves
The aim of the project is to contribute to the improvement of oral health conditions and the inclusion of the vulnerable edentulous population in the Turin area, through a programme of specialist visits and prosthetic restorations.
Once the prosthesis is applied, patients will then be followed up through periodic visits, thus guaranteeing them the right to health enshrined in Article 32 of the Italian Constitution.
Expected Outcomes
- Response to edentulism and consequent health problems (psychological disorders, digestive disorders) and social problems (problems with being in public, shame, marginalisation)
- Inclusion of the most fragile
- Meeting the health rights of those affected
The beneficiaries
The beneficiaries will include at least 20 people in situations of financial and/or social fragility, reported by the same social services with which COI works in close synergy, and others (e.g. people who cannot access the national health service, people with an immigrant background, and the elderly).
