The social context in which the children of the Padre Hurtado and El Duraznal neighbourhoods of Puente Alto (Santiago, Chile) live is extremely dangerous. The Fraternidad Sacerdotal de los Misioneros de San Carlos Borromeo project aims to be an educational alternative.
What the project involves
The project offers young people a protected educational space, where they can grow and feel safe through sport and their relationships with teachers. Humane and team education aims to generate greater harmony even in family spaces, which are often very violent.
The Fraternidad offers training sessions three times a week with two-hour classes, friendly matches in the winter once a month, and a summer mini-league with local teams and the presence of scouts from the bigger teams who can recruit players.
Expected Outcomes
- Emancipation from situations of vulnerability and violence
- Generating a meeting point and shelter in areas at risk
- Working on values such as solidarity, friendship, and mutual respect
The beneficiaries
The project is aimed at children and adolescents from 6 to 16 years old, a total of about 30 children. Connections are made with around 250/300 people during the year, at matches, parent meetings, and meetings with other schools in the area.
