RunChallenge has been active since 2016 in 6 countries, involving more than 500 people in its last season in weekly trainings, races, and awareness-raising events.
The project runs in parallel in three major European cities: Milan, in the PlayMore! spaces in the city centre, Madrid, in the multicultural barrio Lavapiés, and Thessaloniki, in the university area.
What the project involves
RunChallenge forms groups to run in public spaces in the participating cities, following a common pattern but adapting to the host context. Each group is led by instructors and educators who facilitate the participation of people with all types of disabilities. In addition to improving the lifestyle and health of participants, RunChallenge builds more inclusive and social communities where people connect by overcoming fears and prejudices.
Expected Outcomes
- Increasing the offer of inclusive and accessible sport for people with physical, intellectual, and sensory disabilities
- Valuing diversity within an open community
- Promoting a healthy and active lifestyle
The beneficiaries
A total of 100 beneficiaries in Milan, 30 beneficiaries in Madrid, and 20 beneficiaries in Thessaloniki will participate in the weekly training sessions, making a total of 150 beneficiaries, 40% of whom have disabilities. Through the project's sports and promotional events, around 250 indirect beneficiaries, including employees of partner companies, will be involved.
