World Vision International has a long history of emergency response projects in different contexts. The floods at the beginning of June 2024 claimed 18,302 victims and 3 deaths in Chile, affecting 24,821 homes and 84 schools. Families have lost their livelihoods and productive assets, without the possibility of earning an income because access to the formal market is limited. To date, the situation has not changed, resulting in increased poverty.
What the project involves
The project aims to meet the needs of the most vulnerable population in the municipality of Curanilahue, recovering work tools and machinery so that families can continue working despite the emergency. The aim is to reactivate the family economies of entrepreneurs in the Biobío region, raising awareness among the population regarding damage prevention in the event of natural disasters.
Expected Outcomes
- Recovering the livelihoods of at least 50 families/entrepreneurs
- Restarting economic activity
- Information sessions on prevention and care
- Increased resilience to emergencies
The beneficiaries
Target groups include families with children who have lost their livelihoods, entrepreneurs in the rural sector, or self-employed persons responsible for children and adolescents, totalling 50 assisted individuals and families (i.e. 200-250 persons).
