A growing number of children are removed from unsafe family environments, due to abuse, neglect, domestic violence or serious social hardship, and placed in residential care by court order. For the girls who arrive at the Palaio Faliro Girls' Home, what follows needs to be more than a safe place to stay: recovery and a genuine path towards social inclusion take structured, ongoing support.

Girls in residential care need psychosocial support to work through trauma, build resilience and prepare for a life they will eventually lead independently, support that reaches well beyond their basic daily care.

The project

"Stronger Together" brings individual counselling, psychosocial support sessions, life-skills workshops and creative activities to the girls living at the Home, strengthening their sense of inclusion, autonomy and future opportunity. The approach is child-centred and trauma-informed, built around participation, equal opportunities and respect for each girl's own rights and emotional wellbeing.

Alongside direct support for the girls, the project also invests in staff training and local partnerships, working to fold what it learns into the Home's everyday practice, so the benefits are not limited to the girls currently living there but carry forward for the girls who will need this support in the future.

Who the project is for

The project's direct beneficiaries are 8 girls currently residing at the Palaio Faliro Girls' Home.

Its impact reaches further, to the staff and volunteers who support them, to their families or wider support networks, and to the local community, who all benefit as the girls' wellbeing, social integration and readiness for independent living improve.
