Families living with severe and complex disabilities often struggle to find accommodation that is genuinely accessible and equipped to meet their care needs. Demand for accessible, respite-oriented stays regularly outstrips what is available, leaving both people with disabilities and their caregivers with few real options for a holiday or a break.
Without places designed around their needs, these families are often left more isolated, with fewer chances to travel, socialise or simply take time to rest. Responding to this gap means offering accommodation that is accessible by design, not adapted as an afterthought, and support that reaches the whole family, not only the person with a disability.
The project
Casa D Montagna offers accessible accommodation in a mountain setting for people with severe and complex disabilities, along with their families and caregivers. The residence is built around inclusion, accessibility and the dignity of each guest, giving caregivers genuine respite while people with disabilities take part fully in the life and beauty of the mountain surroundings.
The project aims to strengthen local welfare and social inclusion, offering people with severe and complex disabilities real opportunities for autonomy and participation, and countering the isolation and lack of dedicated services that too often keep these families at the margins. The residence is designed as a sustainable, replicable model, rooted in its local area and oriented around the wellbeing of the people it welcomes.
Who the project is for
The project's direct beneficiaries are 125 people with severe and complex disabilities, hosted at the residence each year.
Its impact reaches further, to 125 caregivers and 125 family units, who benefit from dedicated respite and support pathways alongside them.
