The presence of pupils with disabilities is increasing in primary schools in Turin, as noted by MIUR and ISTAT for the 2022-2023 school year.

The Educational Observatory of the Municipality activated discussion tables on inclusion in 2025, a sign of a widespread and concrete need. However, there is still a lack of structured space in the classrooms that allows us to address stereotypes and barriers in a practical and experiential way. Children often grow up without tools to understand the reality of their peers with disabilities, and it is therefore essential to propose paths that stimulate empathy, participation and respect.

What the project involves

The initiative proposes educational and cultural activities to raise students' awareness of the issue of disability and build a more welcoming school environment.

The interventions include activities in schools with workshops and moments of discussion, public events in theaters and sports halls with integrated disciplines between athletes with and without disabilities, and a contest aimed at students for the production of videos dedicated to the themes of inclusion.

The project is founded on educational innovation and direct experience, fostering in children the growth of empathy and the ability to recognize and overcome prejudices.

The objective is to activate a cultural change that makes diversity a shared value, proposing a format that can also be replicated in other school contexts.

The beneficiaries

The project will directly involve over 1,000 pupils from primary schools in Turin and their teachers, who will participate in experiential awareness-raising courses.

Indirect beneficiaries will be the students' families, school staff and the local community, which can also be reached thanks to the public dissemination of the videos produced by the students.

In this way the educational impact will extend beyond the classrooms, contributing to a wider change in the perception of disability.
