Over 3 million people with disabilities live in Chile, including nearly 650,000 in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago alone.

According to ILO data, people with disabilities perceive on average 12% less than workers without disabilities for the same role. The 2022 National Disability Survey also highlights that 17% have severe disabilities, with even greater barriers to access to employment.

For people with multiple disabilities, barriers multiply: poor autonomy, lack of adequate programs and difficulties in professional integration, which fuel a vicious circle of vulnerability and exclusion.

What the project involves

The initiative intends to develop personalized training courses and encourage the job placement of beneficiaries, through two main components:

  • Training for work: theoretical-practical programs with inclusive methodologies and communication tools aimed at promoting progressive autonomy.
  • Work practices: insertion into professional contexts thanks to partnerships with companies, accompanied by a weekly follow-up of the team of specialists.

The specific objectives are to develop autonomy skills for work, create theoretical-practical pedagogical tools suitable for multiple disabilities and reduce the work and economic gaps of participants.

The project includes initial diagnostic assessments, continuous monitoring and final impact findings, including testimonials and satisfaction indicators, in order to measure progress and improve routes in real time.

The beneficiaries

The project is aimed at young people and adults between 18 and 59 years old with multiple disabilities and in conditions of high social and economic vulnerability, residing in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago. These are people with limited training and work experience, but with the motivation to develop new professional skills.

The direct beneficiaries are the participants in training programmes and work practices. Indirect beneficiaries include families, who see their loved ones' prospects for autonomy improve, and the companies involved, who enrich their organizational culture by promoting inclusion and equal opportunities.
