The city of Thessaloniki is experiencing a critical situation due to the excessive consumption of single-use plastics and the scarcity of environmental education pathways.
In collaboration with the Municipality, which makes the spaces of the OK!Thess Innovation Hub available, the project responds to this need with inclusive actions that combine sustainability, creativity and community awareness.
What the project involves
Over the course of ten months, the project will carry out 85 practical workshops and over 340 hours of training, transforming more than 500 kg of plastic waste into creative objects such as jewellery and accessories, thanks to the use of professional machinery.
The activities will be accessible to people of all ages, with a particular focus on children and young people with hearing problems. The initiative will not only reduce the amount of plastic waste dispersed into the environment, but also foster the development of practical and creative skills, stimulating the adoption of sustainable practices in daily life.
The beneficiaries
The direct beneficiaries will be approximately 1,000 participants, including children, students, adults and people with special needs, who will be able to take part in the workshops free of charge. The project will also reach over 10,000 indirect beneficiaries thanks to communication, awareness-raising and the dissemination of a culture of sustainability.
The environment will also benefit from the reduction of plastic waste, while the Thessaloniki community will see its environmental and social resilience strengthened.
