The PERPATO Day Centre operates in Komotini, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, a region unique in cultural and linguistic composition, which is home to various minorities and vulnerable communities. People with motor disabilities living in this area face difficulties in accessing adequate health services, compounded by the scarcity of specialized resources.
About 20 users need treatment or prevention for pressure ulcers each month, a condition that can have serious or life-threatening consequences if not treated in time. The lack of advanced equipment and trained personnel makes a structured intervention urgent, capable of guaranteeing dignity, safety and equal treatment opportunities.
What the project involves
The initiative includes the purchase of a clinically advanced therapeutic mattress and the strengthening of nursing care to ensure prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers. The project introduces innovative solutions to support the complex needs of disabled people, promoting dignity and autonomy.
Activities include:
- Supply of durable, high-quality medical equipment
- Qualified nursing care, with application of best practices
- Personalized daily support for each beneficiary
The beneficiaries
The direct beneficiaries are 85 persons with disabilities: 70 residents of the Komotini area and 15 from other regions, who attend the Day Centre every week. Among these, about 20 per month require specific care for pressure ulcers.
Indirect beneficiaries include families and caregivers, who benefit from reduced care burden, in addition to health personnel, who operate in a safer and more effective context.
